The exact location, such as the address, parking level, or space number
Photo ID and registration or title, or tell us if they are inside the vehicle

Locked out at the Oceanfront

From April through October, parking at the Oceanfront is paid from 8 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. The city runs lots along Atlantic Avenue at 2nd Street, 4th Street and Rudee Loop, plus garages on Pacific Avenue. If your keys are locked in the car, the parking clock keeps running. Meters take coins and cards, and also text-to-pay and the ParkMobile and PassportParking apps, so a phone can add time while the car stays shut.

Check the signs where you parked, and say if paid time is close to running out.

Heat inside a closed car

NOAA notes very warm, humid summers across Virginia. A closed car in the sun gets far hotter than the air outside, and the shade of a garage roof does not make it safe. If a child, a pet or anyone who cannot get out is inside, call 911 first. Do not wait for a locksmith.

If the keys are locked in with the engine running, say so. Stay out of the traffic lane, and at the Oceanfront move into shade rather than standing on hot pavement beside the car.

Away from the Oceanfront

At a home in Kempsville or Bayside, give the street address and the spot: driveway, lot or curb. At Town Center or a shopping center, name the building or store the car is nearest and which side of the lot it is on.

Location and vehicle details

The lot name and nearest numbered street, or the garage and level
Make, model, year and color
Whether the keys are visible inside and whether the engine is running
Whether anyone is inside the car
Photo ID; ownership papers can be checked once the door is open
