Downtown garages and event parking

According to the city's Office of Public Parking, the Water Street, Ed Ball and Yates garages list 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, and the Duval Street garage lists Monday through Saturday. If keys are locked in a car late in the day, the listed closing time matters, so check what is posted at the entrance and say whether you can reach the car on foot.

On event days, drivers around EverBank Stadium, VyStar Ballpark and Veterans Memorial Arena, in the East Bay Street sports and entertainment district, can park in city garages that also sell event parking. After a crowd clears, one car in a large lot is easy to miss. Name the lot or garage, the level or row, and the gate or entrance nearest the car.

Neighborhood streets

King Street District. Craft breweries and bars; give the block and the business you parked near.
Five Points. Give the street and a landmark such as the 1928 Park Arcade Building.
Shoppes of Avondale. Say whether you are on St. Johns or Ingleside Avenue, and the nearest shop.
Springfield. On the Main Street or Eighth Street commercial strips, give the nearest cross street.

Heat inside the car

A closed car in Jacksonville sun heats far past the outside air. If a child, a pet or anyone unable to get out is inside, call 911 right away and let emergency responders handle it; a locksmith request is for when everyone is outside the car. If the engine is running with the keys inside, say so.
