Homes and locks in Orlando

Thornton Park, Lake Eola Heights, Lake Cherokee and Parramore have been inside the city since 1875, Delaney Park since 1911, and College Park and Colonialtown since the 1920s.

Lake Eola Heights, Lake Cherokee, Lake Copeland and Colonialtown South are local historic districts. Parramore is a national historic district, and College Park includes two national ones, the Lake Adair-Lake Concord and Lake Ivanhoe districts.

A house in one of these districts may still have its original entry door. Repairing the existing lock or rekeying it keeps that door in place, which matters under the historic rules below.

Baldwin Park, annexed in 1947, occupies the former Naval Training Center Orlando. Audubon Park, only partly within Orlando, joined the city in 1951 and 1953, and the Lake Nona neighborhoods were annexed in 1994 and 1998.

Creative Village is turning 68 acres in Parramore, next to SunRail and LYNX Central Station, into a mixed-use district. Its first phase includes 957 apartments in Amelia Court, The Julian and Modera Creative Village. At these complexes, say whether the problem is your own unit door or a shared lobby, garage or amenity entry.

Businesses and buildings

The city created Orlando Main Streets in 2008 to support neighborhood commercial districts. There are 12: Audubon Park Garden District, City District, College Park, Curry Ford West, Gateway District, Ivanhoe Village, Mills 50, Parramore, SoDo, the Milk District, Thornton Park and West Lakes.

Creative Village adds larger buildings: UCF Downtown and Valencia College Downtown opened there in August 2019, and Electronic Arts moved its Orlando studio into a 175,940-square-foot office building in fall 2021. For a leased suite, name the building, floor and suite. See commercial locksmith.

Car trouble in Orlando

For Kia Center events, the city's parking page offers pre-paid spaces in the ThreatLocker Garage, which connects to the arena, and reservations at other city-managed garages. Event parking starts two hours before the event and runs until 5:29 a.m. the next day; vehicles left later are subject to additional parking fees.

Local rules worth knowing

Orlando's home sharing rules, in Chapter 58, Part 5B(19) of the city code, took effect July 1, 2018. They cover stays of less than 30 days, one booking at a time, with the resident living on site and present when hosting guests. A whole-property rental is a Commercial Dwelling Unit, which is limited to certain zoning districts and requires a Business Tax Receipt.

The home sharing rules do not allow a home to be set up as a group home. The city lists partitions, padlocks, hasps, key locks, deadbolt locks or any security mechanisms within a structure intended to limit access to all areas by all occupants as evidence of one. Hosts should check with the city before adding keyed locks to interior doors.

Orlando has six historic preservation overlay districts, governed by Chapter 62 (Historic Preservation and Architectural Design) and Chapter 65 (Historic Districts and Landmarks) of the city code. The city takes Certificate of Appropriateness applications for both major and minor changes to historic properties.
