What Tampa's climate does to fobs

Florida has the highest humidity of any state, NOAA says, and a fob spends its life in that air: in pockets, purses, cupholders and on dashboards. When one turns erratic, replace its battery first, because a weak battery can look like a failed remote. A fob soaked in floodwater may stop working even with a fresh battery, so after a storm, say whether the fob or the car got wet.

Summer cabin heat is the other stress. Spare fobs belong indoors, not in a parked car, where the heat builds and a spare invites theft.

Garages, streets and the car itself
