Pill Hill sits on a limestone bluff, roughly between 3rd and 9th streets and 7th and 10th avenues Southwest, with St. Marys Hospital at the foot of the hill. Most of its houses went up in the first third of the 1900s, largely for Mayo Clinic staff. It has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1990, and the City Council approved it as a local landmark district on February 19, 2025. • From November 1 to April 1, alternate-side parking applies citywide from 2 a.m. to 3 p.m. (City Code Section 11-6-49): park on the even-numbered side on even calendar dates and the odd side on odd dates. Cars in the round part of a cul-de-sac must follow it too, and posted signs override the calendar.
• A car may not stay parked on a street more than 24 consecutive hours (Section 11-6-28). Violations can bring a ticket and possible towing.
• In the Central Business District, snow-event parking restrictions are posted on affected meters.

• Heritage review. Section 60.200.040C of the Unified Development Code governs heritage designations and alterations. For Pill Hill, the City's summary says major exterior alterations need review by City staff and the Heritage Preservation Commission, while routine maintenance and repair are not restricted. Before replacing a street-facing door or storefront entrance in either historic district, ask the City whether review applies.
