What a replacement key involves

Car key replacement means cutting a new key and, on most newer cars, programming it to the vehicle. Because a new key will start the car, have proof of ownership ready before you ask.

Proof of ownership

• Registration card or title in your name. If both are lost, your state motor-vehicle agency can replace them.
