How Aurora homes differ at the door

A house lockout in Aurora depends on the building you are standing outside. Census estimates for 2024 put about 12 percent of the city's homes in attached single-family buildings such as townhouses and about 29 percent in buildings of five or more units, so a lockout there can involve more than one locked door.

• Detached houses. Hoffman Heights, north of East Sixth Avenue between Peoria and Potomac streets, is a 1950s neighborhood. • Heather Gardens. This 55-and-over community near I-225 and Cherry Creek State Park has more than 2,400 condominiums, townhomes and patio homes. Give the building number.

If a child, an older adult or a pet is shut inside and at risk, call 911 first. Otherwise, wait somewhere safe, such as with a neighbor or in a nearby business, and say where you will be. If a shared gate or lobby door is involved, call the manager while you wait.
