Downtown meters and the Upper Street lot

LexPark enforces downtown meters Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and does not enforce them on weekends or LFUCG-designated holidays. On a weekday, note how much time the meter has left when you ask for help, and add time if you can.

The surface lot at 168 North Upper Street, at Church Street, is the exception: LexPark enforces it on weekends and holidays too, so a Sunday lockout there still counts against the clock. In a LexPark garage, give the garage name and level.

Snow emergency routes

Lexington ranks its streets for plowing in five tiers. Rank 1 includes Main Street, Harrodsburg Road and Newtown Pike, and most Rank 1 roads are also snow emergency routes. If the Mayor declares a snow emergency, the city says vehicles parked along those routes may be removed, as may vehicles stalled in the roadway. If you are locked out on one with snow on the way, say so in your request, since a removed car turns one problem into two.

Heat, cold and who is inside

Kentucky summers are warm to hot and humid, which makes a shut car a risk for anyone left in it. If a child, a pet or anyone who cannot get out alone is locked inside, call 911 first, before anything else. In winter the risk runs the other way, so wait somewhere warm rather than beside the car.

What to send

• The exact spot: street and nearest cross street, the meter or lot, or the garage name and level
• The year, make and model
• Where the keys are: in the ignition, on a seat, in the trunk or lost
• Whether the engine is running
