What makes a lock problem urgent here

Some lock problems can wait a day or two; others cannot. Southwest Missouri has seen severe ice, and storm damage can turn an ordinary lock failure into a problem that cannot wait. Situations that usually count as urgent:

• A lockout in hard cold or heat with nowhere warm or cool to wait.

• A business that cannot lock up for the night.

Safety before the lock

After a break-in, stay out if you can and call the police first. Let officers check the building before anyone repairs the door, since the damaged lock and frame may matter to the report. Once police are done, the next step is securing the opening.

Even in a hurry, get the total in writing, parts and labor, before work starts.
