What makes a lock problem urgent

Situations that count as urgent in Kansas City:

Call the police first, and stay out until they say it is safe to go in. Photograph the forced door, frame and lock before anything is changed; the photos help with a police report. A door that no longer latches may need a temporary fix first and a proper repair or new lock later.

Under RSMo 441.234, if a landlord does not fix a security condition that violates a local housing or building code within 14 days of written notice, or as promptly as an emergency requires, a tenant who meets the statute's conditions may have it repaired and deduct the receipted cost, within limits.
