Downtown Chandler has five parking garages, and the city's parking page treats them differently. City Hall Garage, Overstreet and Oregon Street Garage charge nothing at any hour, while The Alexander and The Johnathan charge nothing only after 5 p.m. and on weekends. Away from the garages, the Chandler Police Department's parking guide says the city prohibits parking in alleys except in limited circumstances, such as loading or unloading merchandise or passengers or repair-service work that requires moving tools or parts, and that a vehicle left unattended in an alley for more than 10 minutes may be considered in violation. City code also limits residential parking in a front or side yard to a driveway or approved surface. ABC15 reported that a Chandler police sergeant measured 132°F inside a car at Chandler Fashion Center on a 105°F day, after about 30 minutes with the windows cracked and the engine off. The National Weather Service adds that hyperthermia can occur even on a mild day in the 70s, and it puts childhood heatstroke deaths at an average of 38 a year for 1998 to 2022.

Chandler's animal cruelty ordinance defines extreme weather as an outdoor temperature above 100°F or below 32°F, a heat advisory, or a monsoon or dust storm warning.
