Business parks around the Airpark

The city describes its Airpark area as nine square miles of business parks with new Class A office and industrial properties, and its development list gives sizes. Schrader Farms Business Park has three industrial buildings totaling more than 432,000 square feet. Midway Commerce Center has three buildings totaling 301,994 square feet, Chandler Airpark Technology Center has two totaling 203,000, and Chandler Airpark Business Park has four freestanding buildings from 56,756 to 103,639 square feet. The city also lists Go AZ Ave as a 182,000-square-foot speculative industrial development.

In a park like that, each building and each tenant needs its own key control. Give the park, the building and the door, whether it is an office entrance, a suite door or a warehouse bay, and say if you are the tenant or the owner, since that decides who chooses the hardware.

First addresses in Uptown, older buildings downtown

The city says Uptown is often where new businesses look for a first commercial location outside of their garage, and it lists an Adaptive Reuse Overlay District that it says allows flexibility in development standards to promote creative reuse projects. A tenant moving into a reused space inherits its old doors, so ask the landlord who else still holds a key.

Downtown, Wikipedia's list of historic properties in Chandler includes buildings along West Boston Street and San Marcos Place built between 1912 and 1928, among them the Monroe Building at 28 San Marcos Place, built in 1912, and the Reliable Hardware Store Building at 17 West Boston Street, built in 1919. For structures the city has designated, its Historic Preservation Officer reviews applications to make alterations, so ask the city whether a particular storefront is designated before altering an original door. • Once a keyholder has left, change the locks that key opened; in a multi-building park that may be a single building rather than the whole property.
• Ask what the previous tenant left behind: unreturned keys, an old master key, a code nobody reset.
• A master key over separate door keys lets a manager reach every door while each employee carries only what the job needs.
• Record who was issued which key, in writing, before the next change is needed.
• Where a lease lets the landlord keep a key, note in writing which doors it opens.
