Key Fob Programming in Salem, OR

Is it the fob or the battery?

Key fob programming pairs a remote or smart key with your car's computer so the car accepts it. Before arranging it, rule out the battery, because Salem's weather is hard on the small coin cells inside fobs.

• Cold. Salem has recorded −12°F. A coin cell that is already weak can sag in hard cold, and the fob stops working from a distance, then recovers once it warms up indoors.

Downtown street spaces are paid parking now, so check how much paid time is left before a session starts there. In a parking garage, say which level and space, and whether the car can be reached through a gate. If you are on the west side of the Willamette River, say so.

What to have ready

1. Every working fob and key for the car. On some models, programming a new fob erases any fob that is not present, so a spare left in a drawer can stop working.
2. The VIN, which is on the registration.
3. The year, make and model, and whether the car uses push-button start.
4. Photo ID, plus the title or registration in your name.
5. The new fob, if you bought one, with its part number.
