Damp pockets and tired batteries

Winter is the rainy season across most of Oregon, according to NOAA's 2022 state summary, and a Portland fob spends those months in wet coat pockets, bags and cup holders. Moisture that gets past a worn case can corrode the battery contacts, and a small coin cell can deliver less on a cold morning. Signs a fob is failing:

• you have to stand close to the car before it responds
• buttons work only on the second or third press
• the dashboard shows a low key battery warning

A new battery often fixes those; the type number is printed on the old one. If the buttons are cracked or the case will not close, a new shell or a new fob programmed to the car may be needed.

Car fobs and building fobs

3. a photo ID and proof of ownership
4. the year, make and model

A spare programmed while one fob still works is simpler than starting with none. If no working key is left, request car key replacement instead.
