What Sparks weather does to a lock

• Latch that will not catch. Tighten the hinge screws first; a sagging door is a common cause.

Upkeep through the year

Before the freeze season, work each exterior lock a few times, add dry lubricant and check that every door closes without a push. If a lock still binds once the door is aligned, it has probably worn inside. Older hardware can often be repaired, but when parts are no longer made, replacement is the practical choice.
