Will a smart lock fit a Sparks door?

Most smart deadbolts are made to replace an ordinary deadbolt without new holes. Alkaline batteries lose output in the cold, so a lock on an exposed door may warn of low batteries on a winter morning and seem fine by afternoon. Change batteries before winter, and check the keypad's operating temperature range before mounting it on a door that takes direct weather.

Keep a mechanical backup

Many smart deadbolts still have a key cylinder, and lock rekeying can match it to your other doors. Keep that key somewhere other than the porch.
