Where the car is parked matters

Detroit may declare a snow emergency in extreme weather. The Department of Public Works says police can then ticket and tow illegally parked vehicles on snow emergency routes so plows can clear those streets curb to curb, and streets marked with red and white signs are first priority for snow removal. Give the street address, or the nearest cross streets or mile road, and which side of the street the car is on. Say whether snow emergency route signs or red and white signs are posted there, and whether an emergency has been declared. For a lot or garage, add its name, the level and anything needed to get past a gate.

Then describe the car: year, make, model and color, whether the keys can be seen inside, and whether it has push-button start. Have photo ID ready, and say whether the registration is locked inside.
