What a new key starts from

A new key for a car starts with showing the car is yours. Have a photo ID, the registration or title, and the VIN ready. If the registration or title is missing, ask your state motor-vehicle agency for a copy first. Also say how many keys still work. Losing the only key is a different job from cutting a spare, and many newer keys carry a chip that has to be matched to the car.

Where Las Vegas cars sit while a key is missing

If the car is in a downtown lot or garage that sells monthly permits, the garage name and level serve as its address. On a residential street, the block and the nearest cross street do. At home, say whether the car is in a garage or a driveway and whether a gate is in the way.

RVs and mobile homes follow a different clock. Per the city's parking permits page, they need a city permit to park on a residential street for loading and unloading: up to two days each, at least three days apart, and no more than six in three months. If a lost key strands an RV at the curb, start the request early in that window. City RV permits are not valid in Summerlin South, which is in unincorporated Clark County.
