Three kinds of door in one city

Census estimates for 2024 put 53.8 percent of Nampa's homes in buildings from 2000 or later and 6.5 percent in buildings from before 1940, so a lockout here can mean a 1920s bungalow or a house built this century.

• Old Nampa. The city counts 243 homes in this historic district, almost all Craftsman bungalows from 1920 to 1940. An old door that has swelled or settled in its frame can feel locked when it is only stuck, so say which, and whether it has an original lock, a later deadbolt or both.
• University District. The square mile around Northwest Nazarene University, bounded by East Roosevelt Avenue, South Powerline Road, East Hawaii Avenue and 12th Avenue, had owner-occupancy below the citywide rate of about 67 percent in the city's 2009 plan, so the door may belong to a landlord. Contact the landlord or manager first; they may hold a key.
• Newer houses. A house from the 2000s onward often has a knob or lever set with a separate deadbolt. Before assuming you are fully shut out, check other entries such as a garage or side door.
