Old Nampa, a residential historic district, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on March 21, 2007. The city describes its 243 homes as almost entirely Craftsman bungalows built between 1920 and 1940. Many were built from plan-book designs by the local lumber company, or ordered as catalog kits that arrived by railroad car.

The University District is the square mile around Northwest Nazarene University, bounded by East Roosevelt Avenue, South Powerline Road, East Hawaii Avenue and 12th Avenue. The city's 2009 plan for the district found owner-occupancy below the citywide rate of about 67%, and a student mobility rate above 50% at the schools serving the district, against about 21% across the Nampa School District. The Nampa Historic District, listed in 1983, covers ten buildings on First Street South between 12th and 14th Avenues, from a short burst of commercial building between 1905 and 1920. The city's building notes describe brick and brick-veneer fronts, cut sandstone sills and corbelled cornices, and record that several storefronts have been altered, some with metal canopies added below the mezzanine windows.

Car trouble in Nampa

Nampa's snow guidance asks residents to park off the street when they can, so cars are not buried and plows have room to get through. On narrow streets and cul-de-sacs, plow drivers decide whether they can clear safely around parked vehicles, and the city notes that plows may block driveways. If your car is locked, or its only key is lost, while it sits behind a plowed snow bank, say so in the request.

Downtown, on-street parking is limited to two hours in the central core and four hours in the surrounding blocks, and some residential neighborhoods have time limits or permit parking. The city's code compliance division states that vacant structures shall be kept secure to prevent unlawful entry, with broken or missing doors and windows replaced or boarded up under its Board Up Procedures. For unsecured structures, its list of enforced ordinances cites City Code 3-4-10, which makes it unlawful to let a nuisance remain on a property more than five days after written notice.
