Meridian's comprehensive plan notes that over the last 20 years, land in and around the city has shifted from mostly agricultural and single-family residential to a wider mix of housing, commercial and industrial uses.

• Old Town is the historic downtown, and its district boundary mostly follows Meridian's historic plat. The plan expects reuse of existing buildings there, so measure an older door and lock before buying a replacement.

• A sign must be posted at each entrance to the property before any vehicle is booted.
• A notice on the lower driver's-side window must state who applied the boot, when and why, what release requires and costs, and whom to contact.
• A booted vehicle cannot be towed unless it has been immobilized for more than 12 hours.
• Only one release fee may be collected per vehicle.
