Call 911 first when people are at risk

Call 911 if a child, a pet or a vulnerable adult is shut inside a car or a home, if you smell gas or see smoke, or if an intruder may still be inside. After a break-in, call the police, leave the door and lock as they are until officers have seen them, and note the report number.

What makes a lock problem urgent in Ogden

Once everyone is safe, urgency comes down to exposure.

Renters after a burglary or abuse

Utah Code Section 57-22-5.1 lets a renter who has been the victim of burglary, domestic violence, dating violence, stalking or a sexual offense covered by the section require the owner to install a new lock. The renter hands the owner a police report or a protective order issued after a hearing, and pays for the installation. The owner chooses between rekeying a lock in good working condition and replacing it with one of equal or greater quality, may keep a key, and must refuse a key to the perpetrator.
