Locked out in a lot that uses boots

Private lots in Meridian may enforce parking with boots, and the rules sit in Meridian City Code Title 3, Chapter 3:

• Section 3-3-3 has the operator post a sign at every entrance before booting anyone. A notice goes on the lower driver's-side window with the company that applied the boot, the date and reason, the release terms and fee, and a contact.
• Under the same section, a booted vehicle may not be towed until it has been immobilized for more than 12 hours, and only one release fee may be collected per vehicle.
• Section 3-3-4 makes it unlawful to damage or destroy a boot that was lawfully attached.

In a lockout, read the entrance signs and say in your request whether the lot is posted. Opening the car does not remove a boot; release goes through the company named on the window notice. This is general information, not legal advice.

Snow at the curb

The Ada County Highway District maintains Meridian's local roads and all its sidewalks, including snow removal. After plowing, snow can pile against a parked car, so describe how deep it is at the driver's door and whether the car can be reached from the sidewalk side.

Heat, cold and anyone inside

Boise's average July high is 92.7°F, per NOAA's Idaho summary, and a closed car runs hotter than the air around it; a cold one does not stay livable for long either. If a child, a vulnerable adult or a pet is already shut inside, call 911 before anything else, in any season. In winter, wait indoors or in another warm car, not beside the locked one.
