Bend's business areas

Old Bend, one of the city's 13 neighborhood districts, takes in the south-central business core, and Southern Crossing spans the Deschutes River in central Bend. Requests from the Downtown Parking District, the Old Mill District or the streets around McKay Park and The Pavilion should name the street, suite or lot. One business in any of them may have a storefront entry, a back service door, interior office locks and a gate, each on its own key.

Knox boxes, gates and rekeying

A building or suite with a sprinkler or commercial alarm system falls under Bend Fire & Rescue's request for a rapid entry system, and the approved one is KNOX-BOX. Two points affect lock work:

• Bend's Knox keys differ from those used in other Central Oregon communities, so any box, padlock or key switch is ordered under Bend Fire, not reused from another town.
• Any locking gate, at a business or a home, is to carry a Knox padlock or key switch.

Oregon Fire Code section 506.2 covers what follows a lock change: when a lock is changed or rekeyed, the building operator must immediately notify the fire code official and provide the new key for the key box. Staff and tenant turnover

When an employee leaves with a key, or a suite changes tenants, the doors that key opened should be rekeyed. A master key system can let one suite or door be changed without reissuing keys for every other door. Keep a written log of who holds which key, and in a multi-tenant building, confirm from the lease which doors the landlord controls.
