Proving the car is yours

A key for a modern car is often cut to that vehicle and programmed to it as well, so have proof ready:

• photo ID
• the title or current registration in your name, issued by your state motor-vehicle agency
• the VIN, which appears on both
• for a leased, financed or company car, paperwork showing you may have a key made for it

If the registration is locked inside the car, list that with the car's details.

A car without a key before a snowstorm

Salt Lake City's snow guidance asks drivers to leave the street clear while a storm lasts and for up to 36 hours afterward, and to park close to the curb.
