Where Provo drivers get locked out

Downtown Provo has more than 10,000 parking spaces, and the city suggests its parking garages for any stay longer than two hours. A car locked in a garage is harder to find than one on a street, and a level number means little to someone who has not walked the structure. Give the garage, the level and the stall number or nearest pillar marking, or describe the walk from the nearest entrance.

Most occupied homes in Provo are rented, so a lockout may happen in an apartment lot where every row looks alike. Give the complex name, the building number and the row nearest an entrance. In an office park such as Jamestown, on North University Avenue, the building name helps more than a street address.

Heat, cold and anyone inside

The Western Regional Climate Center describes strong sun by day and steep cooling after dark across Utah. A closed car in direct sun gets far hotter than the air outside, and one parked overnight can be cold by early morning.

If a child, a pet or anyone who cannot get out is inside, call 911 first. A locksmith request comes second.

If the engine is running with the keys inside, say so, since the car is burning fuel with no one at the wheel.
