Provo's business areas and their doors

Provo's 2023 General Plan singles out a few commercial places for their design: the historic downtown, the Riverwoods Research and Business Park and the Jamestown office park on North University Avenue. It also notes that Rocky Mountain University and Noorda Medical College have located campuses in East Bay. Doors in each kind of place tend to differ.

• Historic downtown. An older building may have a wood door with hardware added over time, such as a deadbolt beside the original lockset.
• Office parks. A multi-tenant office building can mix a landlord-controlled entry, suite doors keyed by each tenant, and interior offices, file rooms and server closets.
• Campus buildings. Academic and medical buildings commonly use commercial lever sets, exit devices on corridor doors and card or fob access alongside keys.

Photograph the door, the lock face and the door edge, and say whether an electronic access system is involved.

Turnover and who holds keys

Students make up more than 40 percent of Provo's residents, and the population swells each August and thins near the end of April. If your staff includes students, keyholders may change on that same calendar, and every departure is a key to account for. A master key system keyed in levels lets a manager retire a returned or lost key by rekeying only the cylinders it opens. A key log with names and dates makes the next change easier.
